PAST SIMPLE

 

  • AFIRMATIVE

 

Subj + V- ed / 2nd column (irregular verb)  + C    
E. g.:          She forgot to wash the car.

                         We waited for Tim at the door of the cinema.

  • NEGATIVE

 

Subj + did + not + Verb + C                   
E. g.:          We didn’t think about that problem.

She didn’t have time to go to the party.

  • INTERROGATIVE

 

Did + Subj + Verb + C    
E. g. :         Did you find the way to the station?

Did she work hard this year?

PAST CONTINUOUS

 

  • AFIRMATIVE

 

Subj +    was/were    + Verb-ing + C       

E. g.:          I was talking to my sister at the phone.

                   We were eating in the canteen.

  • NEGATIVE

 

Subj +    was/were   + not  + Verb-ing + C         

E. g.:          I was not cleaning the room.

You were listening to the radio this morning.

  • INTERROGATIVE

 

Was/Were   + Subj + Verb-ing + C?        

E. g.:          Was she cutting the grass this morning?

Were they drinking coffee in the kitchen?
